The Creation of RM Dinner Club

The idea came to me around 3 in the morning one late April morning. I had woken up feeling hot, hungry, thirsty, and uncomfortable in general. 

As night owls or restless souls can attest, 3 a.m. is a lovely time to think if one can embrace it. 

After I snuck a piece of turkey from the fridge and felt a little more settled in the tum, my mind went from my hunger to the business Anna and I had been working on since January. The question that I began trying to answer was this: “How do we cultivate true beauty on earth through doing Reeves Mackenzie?” 

As much as I genuinely adore the inventory we offer and want to cover every inch of my home in it one day, “selling stuff” didn’t feel like a good enough answer to the question in my heart. 

That’s when I was completely struck by what Reeves Mackenzie was initially inspired by: hosting. 

When Anna and I first began talking about what we value and what we would want to inspire other people with, the act of creating beautiful spaces in which we gather people was the foundation. This was what we would build our business around.  

So, I began creating a bullet point list in my notes app entitled: RM Monthly Dinner Party. Some of the bullets included: 

• A beautiful tablescape with our inventory
• Make it happen outside as much as possible
• We could have a theme each month that would inform the guest list: “You’ve been invited because you’ve been: A positive impact, an amazing friend, etc. 

My excitement began to grow as I realized that throwing these dinners could accomplish a slew of things that Anna and I value: 

• Collaboration and bringing people in who can use their giftings to create beauty 
• Creating gorgeous spaces with our inventory and hosting people 
• Inspiring other people to gather well 

I shared my note with Anna the next day and she was on board. We began planning for a dinner that would take place two months later and that would become the first installment of the Reeves Mackenzie Dinner Club: A seasonal gathering of friends, new and old.

With the help of a lot of wonderful friends, we created a really lovely evening for people who had invested in our business either financially, emotionally or both!
